Jozsef Molnar – Exceptional Horn Player

Origins and Education

Of Hungarian origin, Jozsef Molnar studied the horn at the conservatories of Győr and Budapest, where he was awarded the prestigious Béla Bartók Prize. He then continued his training in Vienna and Paris before achieving a virtuosity diploma “with distinction” in Geneva. Since 1958, he has held the position of principal horn in the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra.

Career and Teaching

Since 1965, Jozsef Molnar has also shared his expertise as a horn professor at the Lausanne Conservatory of Music. His renown has led him to collaborate in musical broadcasts for radio and television across several European countries, and he has contributed to numerous recordings with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande.

Background and Education

Born in Vienna, Josef Molnar began his musical journey as a singer with the Wiener Sängerknaben, then pursued studies at the Vienna Conservatory in harp, singing, musicology, and composition. He has performed as a soloist and collaborated with leading orchestras in Austria.

Between Japan and Europe

After an invitation from the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo, Josef Molnar performed in Japan for two years, where he also gave over 400 recitals. Today, he divides his time between Asia and Europe, collaborating with prestigious orchestras.

Recognition and Honors

In 1962, Josef Molnar performed as a soloist at the Lucerne International Music Festival with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Herbert von Karajan. He was also invited to the Second and Third International Harp Competitions in Israel. In 1966, the Austrian government awarded him the “Cross of Honor for Science and Culture.”
