Marimba Artist, Manuel Leuenberger

Born in 1988 in Thun, Switzerland, Manuel discovered the marimba at the age of 16.
He fell in love with the warm, wooden tones of the instrument and decided to pursue a career as a professional musician.

Starting with his first instrument, the cello, his musical journey led him through drums and piano to classical percussion, which became the focus of his formal training.

He completed his studies with degrees from ZHdK in Zurich, the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, and HSLU in Lucerne.

Manuel sees himself not just as a musician, but as an artist.
His motivation is to create as diverse an art form as possible with the marimba – hence the title Marimba Artist.

He fosters various duos, including collaborations with tap dancer Dani Borak (Wooden Impact), clarinetist Carmen Berger (Acoustic Voyagers), and organist Yoshiko Masaki. Additionally, he regularly works with orchestras, choirs, and chamber music ensembles.

Fluss der Zeit – About the Album

In his first solo marimba album, Manuel presents works that have accompanied him since his early years of study, shaping his playing style and influencing his own compositions.

This album is intended to be a musical business card, an artistic profile in sound, reflecting him as a 36-year-old artist.
Yet it only offers a small glimpse into his musical life, which spans an affinity for Bach to a fascination with progressive metal.

The versatility of the marimba and Manuel’s joy in playing cannot be encapsulated in a single album. That is why listeners are invited to look forward with curiosity to what the future may bring…
