Brahms and Bruckner, to name just two&#8230;<br \/>\nTheir temperaments could hardly be more different.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Anton Bruckner: Power, Brilliance, and Exaltation<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Bruckner seeks displays of power and brilliance in the spirit of the organ. He &#8220;registers&#8221; the voices: contrasting female and male voices, sudden &#8220;bursts&#8221; where the choir expands to eight parts, and a search for near-orchestral colors. The musician\u2019s solemn and deep faith finds sumptuous means of expression that convey the exaltation (a particularly romantic trait) of the soul.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Representative Examples:<\/strong><br \/>\nSeraphic (<em>Ave Maria<\/em>) or dark and dramatic (<em>Christus factus est<\/em>), solemn and somewhat austere (<em>Os justi meditabitur<\/em>), grandly architectural (<em>Tota pulchra es&#8230;<\/em>), Bruckner imbues these short works with an inner dimension that makes them commanding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Johannes Brahms: Moderation and Classicism<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>More restrained in expression than Bruckner, Brahms approaches the choir in a much more &#8220;classical&#8221; way, akin to chamber music. As director of the <em>Bach Hamburger Frauenchor<\/em> in Hamburg and a devoted admirer of polyphonic masters from Palestrina to Bach, he composed choral works that rank among the finest in his repertoire.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Where to find it:<\/strong><br \/>\nNot only in the <em>German Requiem<\/em> but also in numerous motets and choral works with organ. Skilled in all the complexities of counterpoint, as comfortable as Sch\u00fctz in constructing a polyphonic fresco (<em>Warum ist das Licht gegeben\u2026<\/em>), Brahms offers a musical vision of life and, more often, death, where melancholy emotion blends with serene confidence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <em>Psalm 13<\/em> is also bathed in a light that is uniquely Brahms, as evidenced by the \/>\n<h3><strong>International Recognition<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In addition to its regular activities in Geneva for over 20 years, the Psallette has performed numerous concerts Romande<\/strong> and other international broadcasters.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Pierre Pernoud: A Remarkable Career<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Born in Geneva in 1930, <strong>Pierre Pernoud<\/strong> pursued both classical and musical studies simultaneously.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1953, he obtained a <strong>licence \u00e8s lettres<\/strong> from the University of Geneva while attending the organ class at the Geneva Conservatory.<\/li>\n<li>A one-year stay in <strong>Paris<\/strong> allowed him to further his university education and earn, under the guidance of Professor <strong>Jacques Chailley<\/strong>, the <strong>Certificate of Advanced Studies in Music History<\/strong> from the Institute of Musicology at the Sorbonne.<\/li>\n<li>After passing an entrance examination, he also joined the <strong>musical aesthetics<\/strong> course of <strong>Roland-Manuel<\/strong> at the National Conservatory of Paris.<\/li>\n<li>He studied choral conducting under <strong>C\u00e9sar
