From the beginning of his concert career, at the first Corsica Festival with Jean-Bernard Pommier, pianist, Jean Mouillère, violinist, the Via Nova Quartet and Martine Geliot, harpist, Gabriel FUMET was singled out by the critics as “in the very first ranks of the French school of flute playing, which, as everyone knows, is at a very high level” (Le Figaro).

More recently, the monthly magazine “Musiquinfo” entitled an article about him: “A musician-poet, with uncommon sensitivity and musical style”. His concerts in the city of Salzburg, including several recitals at the Mozarteum, also earned him particularly warm reviews in the Austrian press, which emphasized “the admirable expressive force in his playing” (Salzburger Nachrichten), and also “the extraordinary musical tension in his interpretations” (Ländlicher Raum). In March of 2005, Gabriel FUMET was invited to St. Petersburg for a recital of French music, for the world premier of his grandfather’s choral piece, “Saisons”. The two concerts, given by the Yulia Khutoretskaya vocal ensemble in collaboration with the Toison d’Art, were particularly successful.

Gabriel FUMET has also accomplished remarkable work in presenting the works of his grandfather, Dynam-Victor Fumet (1867-1949) and his father, Raphael Fumet (1898-1979), both excellent composers. The Edmond de Rothschild financial company and the Fondation Paribas helped him to record several major works on CD. Gabriel FUMET teaches at the Paris International Conservatory where he accepts both amateurs and professionals. In addition to his career as a soloist, Gabriel Fumet published a book “The Music of Silence” describing the atypical course of his ancestors (Delatour Editions). This work, in an incisive and eloquent style, has been awarded by the Languedoc Academy of Arts, Letters and Sciences.

Note that the CD is composed of various recordings, many of which are live, and sometimes does not give them first-rate technical quality. But these recordings, some of which date back more than thirty years, were chosen above all for their expressive presence.
