POETIC DUO
Bernard Darmon, Violin – Tatiana Simonova, Piano
A graduate of the advanced program under the tutelage of Sacha Kellerman, a student of Isaac Stern and a graduate of The Juilliard School in New York, Bernard Darmon also took masterclasses with the Hungarian maestro Geza Kapàs, professor at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest. He is the recipient of an international award as a concert violinist and composer, and a member of the National Order of Musicians.
In partnership with concert pianist Tatiana Simonova, he has given numerous successful recitals throughout France. He has also performed in several major luxury hotels, for the American network CBS News, whose English-language affiliate was based in Paris, at a private soirée hosted by a former Israeli ambassador to UNESCO, at the Enghien Casino, at the Carpentras International Music Festival, as a solo violinist and in duos, and in recitals at numerous retirement homes in Marseille, Aix-en-Provence, Aubagne, Gémenos, etc., as well as in a violin-piano duo recital before the Russian consul in Marseille, among other venues. Their extensive repertoire includes classical, Gypsy, Russian, Yiddish, international pop, jazz, and original compositions performed in a concert style. Renowned masters such as Pierre Amoyal, Alexandre Benderski and Sasha Kellerman have praised his musical performance and compositions.
In addition, as a passionate painter, he has won ten art prizes, including five awards from the Japanese master Bosco Tatsuya Hirata, listed and referenced in AKOUN. Several of his works can be viewed on his Instagram page: violoniste_34. He is also a poet and writer, the recipient of more than twenty literary awards, a member of the Society of French Poets, and has been published seven times, mostly through traditional publishing, with his works listed at FNAC.
In fact, the pictorial and poetic aspects of his work naturally represent an expressive extension of his music. With the Poetic Duo, he has already performed, alongside his colleague, in prestigious venues, in recitals combining the two languages of the soul — music and poetry — and their performances have been highly acclaimed each time.
Tatiana Simonova was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She studied under Michael Lebed at the Rimsky-Korsakov Higher School of Music in St. Petersburg. In France, she studied under the renowned pianist Jacqueline Eymar, a student of Yves Nat.
Galina Minsker, a celebrated music critic from St. Petersburg, took notice of Tatiana Simonova during her recitals in Russia for her subtle understanding of composers and her distinctive artistic style. Tatiana Simonova has a particular fondness for the Romantic repertoire.
At the Llangollen International Festival in England, she was noticed by Lady Evelyn Barbirolli, wife of Sir John Barbirolli, conductor of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, for “her beautiful tone, her dynamism, and her vitality.”
Since 1998, Tatiana Simonova has been teaching piano, combining the best of the Russian and French schools.
“When I play Rachmaninoff, I think of my country; I feel all the emotions; I feel very close to him.” Quoted in the newspaper La Provence, October 2012.
