Jeanne Bovet

Raised in a family of musicians, Jeanne Bovet had no difficulty in asserting her passion for music. At the age of six, after having been in close companionship with her Blüthner grand piano since early childhood, she entered the Conservatory of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where she received the fundamental and highly important teaching of three exceptional professors: Mrs Colin-Thomas, Louis Kelterborn and Fritz-Hans Rehbold.

At the age of 15, after her application for the piano and organ diplomas had been refused — the required age being 18 — she fulfilled her deepest wish: to study with the pianist Alfred Cortot at the École Normale de Musique in Paris. She completed the full course of licences under the guidance of Marthe Morhange, Yvonne Lefébure, Nadia Boulanger, Charles Koechlin, Olivier Messiaen, Charles Münch, Igor Stravinsky, and of course Alfred Cortot, with whom she developed a warm musical bond that lasted until his death — around a hundred letters from all corners of the world… Her fellow students included Dinu Lipatti, Samson François, Hélène Boschi, the violinist Ginette Neveu, and later Miguel-Angel Estrella.

It was also at the École Normale that she met Paul Dukas, Francis Poulenc, Jean Hubeau, Lazare Lévy, Jacques Thibaud and Charles Panzéra…
